Yoga For Beginners Tuesday 6:15pm - 7:15pm 

There are lots of different styles of yoga - I call my style of teaching yoga flow. Join us in our beginners class where we can start right at the beginning. The classes are relaxed, each week we practice different postures, and learn new postures. Then we put them together into a flowing movement, using our bodies and breath work to create a lovely yoga sequence that will ultimately lead us to a relaxation / meditative practice at the end of class.  

Each week there is a different theme, maybe working through the chakras, maybe dealing with emotions such as anger or having an over busy mind. After the hours practice you should come away being more aware about how your body is feeling and how you are feeling emotionally and spiritually - more balanced - a perfect mid week practice.

Join me for this transformational style of yoga where we move away from the classic yoga postures and use movement, mantras and meditation to break through the barriers that are holding us back. A dynamic and fun yoga practice where we will learn something new every week.

My Yoga for Real Life classes are Kundalini based yoga which is a dynamic blend of spiritual and physical practice. Each class focuses on a kriya, meaning action.

This style of yoga uses movement, breathwork, mantras, mudras and meditation throughout the class. It doesn’t segment asanas from breathwork or mediation, it uses all these techniques throughout the class to help shift both physical and emotional energy within the body.

Kundalini is an energy coiled (dormant) at the base of the spine. Using the imagery of a snake charmer awakening the snake to uncoil itself and rise straight up from its basket, the kriyas in Kundalini yoga, unlock your kundalini energy coiled, like a snake at the base of your spine (root chakra). As you work on yourself and breakthrough the physical, mental and emotional barriers it rises through your chakras to the crown chakra and `ultimately, enlightenment.

During the next three months my classes will be focusing on our 7 Chakras - each class is independent so you can come to one, two, or all seven classes, in this series!

Chakra 1 – root chakra – Courage ** a new journey begins!*

The first chakra is located at the base of the spine and is the centre of our regeneration. It stores our vital force, stimulating all the cells in every part of the body. It is concerned with basic security, courage, survival and our addictive behaviour.
It represents our image of self, of our presence on earth and it carries all our experiences, particularly those of early childhood.
In this powerful class we will be focusing on the root chakra and practicing a set of exercises to give  flexibility to your spine and improve your digestion and elimination.
Our kriya will work towards making us feel centred, grounded, stable and a enabling a sense value of yourself.
We will finish with a mantra meditation and a long deep relaxation.

Chakra 2 – sacral chakra – Creativity **Our journey continues**

 Do you want to do so much, but feel frustrated or held back?
Or maybe you feel a lack of passion for anything? You feel tired all the time and lack enthusiasm for life?
In this class with will be working on the second Chakra, located behind the lower abdomen, in the sacrum, the bone that connects your lumber spine to your tailbone and lower pelvis. It corresponds to the reproductive organs, kidneys and adrenals. Its element is water and it is all about FLOW and flexibility towards life.
The second chakra is our centre of creativity, passion, emotions and pleasure, intimacy and connection, movement and change.
By rebalancing this chakra, we can bring about more creativity, passion and flow in our lives. It’s not just about our creativity, how does your money, relationships or sexuality flow?

Chakra 3 - Naval chakra – Courage ** Listening to our intuition**

 This weeks class will focus on the naval chakra  that gives us the vitality and power to carry our ideas forward and make them happen.
Many foundational yogic texts state that yoga begins at the naval. It is the centre from which we derive our sense of self and initiate all movement. It’s an important source of vitality and health in the body.
The third chakra is in the stomach area and affects the digestive system, gall bladder, spleen and pancreas. Maybe you feel blocked with digestive problems, low energy levels poor eating habits? If you are stressed or nervous you feel it in your stomach. It’s where you also sense your intuition – literally your gut feelings.
This chakra affects your self-esteem, power, and willpower. It’s where that feeling of ‘yes I can’ comes from it’s your centre of personal power.
By working on this chakra, we will be working on our own self-esteem, helping to inspire ourselves and our own willpower. In this class we will stretch, strengthen, awaken, empower, breathe and feel alive!
We will finish the class with beautiful mantras/meditations and a long deep relaxation.

Chakra 4 – heart chakra – Love ** all we need is love**

Join us for a BOUNTIFUL, BLISSFUL and BEAUTIFUL heart opening yoga class, which will bring abundance and move love into our lives.
In this class we will work on a set of exercises for the 4th chakra – the heart chakra- it is our source of caring, intuition, compassion and unconditional love. It is concerned with how you care about yourself and is where the shift happens from ‘me’ to ‘we’.
The organs and glands in this area are the heart, lungs and the thymus gland which regulates your immune system. We will also be working on realigning our rib cage and enabling our diaphragm to work more easily, increasing our prana, our life force energy. The class will involve breath work, mantras, and dynamic movement mediations.
Opening and strengthening our heart centre as our journey through the chakras continues.

 Chakra 5 – throat chakra – Truth ** Sat Nam – truth is my name**

In this class we will be focusing on the fifth chakra. Located at the top of the beast bone the throat is the centre for the expression of truth and communication.
It influences the thyroid gland, which affects the balance of the entire nervous system, metabolism, muscular control and body temperature.
This energy centre is all about truth – about listening to that inner voice and discovering your authentic self. It’s about the power of words, about language, knowledge and the ability to communicate well.
When blocked this chakra can manifest as shyness, frustration at an inability to express yourself, voice, neck and thyroid problems, insecurity fear of other people’s opinions and judgements and lethargy.
When balanced/unblocked you will always speak the truth, will have the ability to communicate effectively and will be able to reach your full potential.
This class has slightly fewer dynamic movements but uses breath work and mantras to help open up the throat chakra and a long relaxation at the end of the class.
Kundalini yoga is an easy style of yoga to learn and it can produce dramatic results quickly, you’ll feel more awake, aware, healthier and able to face everyday challenges in a much more positive way.

Chakra 6 – third eye chakra – Wisdom ** clarity on where we focus**

The 6th chakra, also known as the third eye. It is located in the middle of the forehead, just above the space between the eyes. It is the centre of wisdom and perception. When we close our eyes and focus at our third eye in meditation, we are focusing on the 6th chakra, as well as stimulating the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is known as the “master gland” and controls all the other glands and hormone production
This chakra is also associated with the brain and eyes. Health problems related to the 6th chakra include migraines, memory loss, Alzheimer’s brain cancer, depression, and anxiety.
When balanced the third eye is the eye that sees beyond this world, the house of intuition, wisdom and perception.
As a more mental than physical energy, our kriya with incorporate mainly seated exercises, to stimulate the third eye with beautiful mantras and a long deep relaxation at the end.

Chakra 7 – crown chakra – Perception ** the seat of the soul**

In this class we will be focusing on the 7th chakra or crown chakra. This chakra is located at the top of the head (the pineal gland) it is the seat of the soul and the centre of perception.
The 7th chakra has the key characteristic of surrender, the humility that fills you as you bow before infinity. That is one of the reasons that so many traditions use the act of bowing. When you do the top of the head the 7th chakra is brought towards the earth allowing the blood circulation and prana to become focused here.
This gives us new purpose of openness and strength; you then flow spontaneously in rhythm with the universe. When blocked it can manifest as fear of death, grief and denial of spiritual experience.
When unlocked it can manifest as bliss, unity, enlightenment, experiencing all as one.
In this class we use a kriya that incorporates elements from the base chakra up to your crown chakra shifting our energy upwards! We use mantras, breathwork with our moving meditational work and end the class with a beautiful relaxation to integrate all the work we’ve done during the class.
